Benefits of Solar Panels

Many people are already aware of the benefits of solar panels. Direct light from the sun is converted into electricity which you can use, and therefore you can obtain cheaper electricity bills by using less energy imported from the grid. There are also environmental benefits to consider as a 2.16kWp system could reduce your carbon footprint by 1tC.

However, the lesser known benefits of solar panels, is the "Feed in Tariff" (FiT). The FiT will pay you for all the electricity you generate and also for a deemed export of 50% of the total generated, whether it is fed back into the grid or not. It makes no difference how much you use; you will still get paid the same amount from your electricity supplier. These payments are tax free and index linked.

The other benefits of solar panels, is that the FiT stays with the property for 25 years (index linked and tax free), reduced electricity bills (for generated energy that is used directly) and the resale value of your property could increase as it has a renewable energy technology installed.
